Hello World
Hi, I’m Hongchao Hu (Jason). Welcome to my website.
I am a Data Analyst / Business Analyst focused on turning complex datasets into clear, practical decisions. My work combines technical analysis, business context, and cross-functional execution to improve product outcomes and operational efficiency.
I work with Python, SQL, Tableau, Power BI, and process modeling tools to deliver insights across user behavior, forecasting, and business performance. My background includes analytics in fintech, gaming, and telecom, where I have supported both strategy and implementation from requirement gathering to reporting and optimization.
Please explore my academic journey, project work, and professional experience. You can also connect with me on LinkedIn or Instagram.
Academic Experience
My academic journey began in Chicago at Wheaton Academy, where I developed a global perspective and long-term interest in quantitative problem-solving. I then earned a B.S. in Mathematics and Computer Science with a minor in Business Economics from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD).
I am currently pursuing an M.S. in Data Science at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) (Fall 2025–2027). My graduate focus is on analytics, data visualization, and predictive modeling, with an emphasis on real-world applications that connect technical depth with business value.
Across both programs, I have built a foundation in software, statistics, and business analysis that supports my long-term goal: to grow from analyst roles into data-driven strategy and leadership positions.

Interests
-
One of my favorite ways to recharge is being in the ocean. Living close to the coast in San Diego gave me the perfect opportunity to pick up two sports I now love deeply: Surfing and Scuba Diving. There is something uniquely freeing about paddling out at sunset or descending beneath the surface to explore a completely different world—sea lions included. Both have taught me patience and presence. Check out my Instagram.

-
Music has been a constant thread throughout my life. I started playing the violin at age five, and by the time I reached high school I had added guitar as a second instrument. Serving as deputy chief of the Wheaton Academy orchestra was one of my most formative experiences—rehearsing complex pieces together, coordinating section dynamics, and performing in front of an audience reinforced lessons in discipline, collaboration, and leadership that I still carry into my professional work today.

-
I am also a competitive gamer. Gaming continues to sharpen my strategic thinking, learning mindset, and ability to adapt quickly—qualities that influenced my decision to gain hands-on industry experience at Mobalytics.
