About

Hello World

Hi, I’m Hongchao Hu (Jason). Welcome to my website.
I am a Data Analyst / Business Analyst focused on turning complex datasets into clear, practical decisions. My work combines technical analysis, business context, and cross-functional execution to improve product outcomes and operational efficiency.

I work with Python, SQL, Tableau, Power BI, and process modeling tools to deliver insights across user behavior, forecasting, and business performance. My background includes analytics in fintech, gaming, and telecom, where I have supported both strategy and implementation from requirement gathering to reporting and optimization.

Please explore my academic journey, project work, and professional experience. You can also connect with me on LinkedIn or Instagram.

Academic Experience

My academic journey began in Chicago at Wheaton Academy, where I developed a global perspective and long-term interest in quantitative problem-solving. I then earned a B.S. in Mathematics and Computer Science with a minor in Business Economics from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD).

I am currently pursuing an M.S. in Data Science at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) (Fall 2025–2027). My graduate focus is on analytics, data visualization, and predictive modeling, with an emphasis on real-world applications that connect technical depth with business value.

Across both programs, I have built a foundation in software, statistics, and business analysis that supports my long-term goal: to grow from analyst roles into data-driven strategy and leadership positions.

Professional Skills

Professional Experience

At Thaddeus Resource Center, I work as a Data Analyst and Business Analyst, supporting data-driven decision making and operational improvement across teams. I analyze performance and operational data to surface trends, gaps, and improvement opportunities, and build reporting views and dashboards to help teams monitor KPIs and measure the impact of process changes. I also contribute to business analysis efforts—partnering with stakeholders across operations, engineering, and leadership to clarify requirements, map end-to-end workflows, and document decisions and dependencies that keep delivery well-scoped and on track.

At Tanbii, I work as a CRM Data Analyst Intern supporting a sustainability gaming community through behavioral analytics and engagement strategy. I analyze Discord and in-game activity using Statbot and MySQL to uncover retention drivers and engagement drop-off points, applying clustering and predictive analytics to segment user cohorts and inform lifecycle strategy. I deliver weekly insights that guide sprint-based activity releases and improve onboarding and sustainability engagement flows, and build Tableau and Jupyter dashboards to visualize adoption metrics that support product and community decisions.

At Mega InfoTechs, I worked as a Data Analyst and Project Coordinator, connecting business requirements with technical execution. I documented BRDs/FSDs, aligned backlog priorities with growth targets, and supported cross-functional launch planning. I also performed exploratory analysis in Python to identify product usage inefficiencies that reduced operational costs by 2%, and built cohort analyses plus Tableau/Jupyter dashboards to track adoption and roadmap progress.

At Mobalytics, I supported gaming analytics initiatives as both a Data Analyst and Business Analyst Intern. I analyzed retention, churn, and customer behavior using Python and Seaborn, and created visual reports in Tableau and Power BI. I also built forecasting models with Scikit-learn and SciPy to improve monetization planning and reduce erroneous deliveries by 50%. In parallel, I documented epics, features, and BDD user stories in JIRA while coordinating with engineering, sales, and product teams.

At American Express, I supported global teams as a Data Analyst and Business Systems Analyst Intern on secure system integration and compliance-focused delivery. I used AWS Cognito and SQL to support cross-region data integration and report validation, contributed to impact analysis for compliance rollouts, and executed UAT for enterprise licensing and workflow logic. The role strengthened both my technical execution and stakeholder communication in regulated environments.

At CTA, I started as a Data Entry Analyst and expanded into process optimization and performance analytics. I built MySQL-based APIs that improved transaction processing speed by 13%, analyzed merchant fulfillment data to identify bottlenecks, and developed AWS reporting pipelines plus Excel dashboards for KPI monitoring. This role built my foundation in scalable data systems and operational analytics.
